Headteacher’s Welcome

Welcome to Horfield Church of England School’s website, and to a window onto the wonderful things our children and staff are achieving together.

As the school’s new head I am excited to lead our team in helping all our children to be ‘Deeply Rooted, Flourishing Together and Reaching Great Heights’.

‘Deeply Rooted’ means equipping each child with a secure grounding in every area of their learning, from reading, writing and mathematics to a fully-evolved understanding of their surroundings, cultures and where they can go in the world. We will constantly develop our teaching and learning techniques by working with educational experts, school leaders and internationally-acclaimed writers, and share best practice with other schools in the Lighthouse Partnership to build on a classroom system that allows our children to thrive.

‘Flourishing Together’ sees the whole child grow, so that we cultivate their social awareness, mental health and general wellbeing alongside their academic development. Children are rewarded for showing values such as generosity and kindness, while our alignment with the NurtureUK principles ensures that we understand today’s barriers to learning – and how they can always be overcome. We celebrate the strength of our arts and music provision as we know how important it is for our children to be able to express themselves by exploring their creativity.

‘Reaching Great Heights’ is what we intend for all of our children. Through encouragement, nurture, support and challenge we will aim for every child to reach their full potential, whether academically through carefully planned, paced and purposeful lessons or socially through our clearly-defined class structure, routines and guidelines.

At Horfield, we are dedicated to providing an exciting and inspiring education so that every child can be ‘Deeply Rooted, Flourishing Together and Reaching Great Heights’.
